What got you started with creating characters?

I started character design because I wanted to have my own content, even if it was small. I thought that although it is difficult to create comics and games, designing characters with a unified worldview would be the easiest form of content to start with. I also had an experience in character design at a game development company, so I thought I could make use of that experience.

What inspires most of your characters and worlds?

I am strongly influenced by "Helltaker" and the cartoon "Monster High". To this, I add the influence of various Japanese anime, dating sims, and American cartoons. I am also very inspired by the art of people I follow on Twitter. I like goth style and cute things.

How did you get started as an artist?

I attended art university, so the creating art itself was done at school since then. I started my current Twitter account in 2018 to train in character art in earnest. I was working in the game industry at the time and was trying to expand my work. At first, I was drawing fan art for "WataMote".

Would love to hear more about the favorite character you designed and what you think made it so good.

They are all my favorites, but I especially like the mummy girl named Catherine. I like eyes like the black mage in the "Final Fantasy" series and bangs that cover her eyes, and I designed her while thinking about how to make those elements into a cute girl. I think I have a good idea of "a bright personality with a mysterious appearance.

You now make merch for original characters. How did that start? Tell us more about it!

I am experimenting to see if I can do something more than drawing art. Now that it is so easy to produce goods, I thought it would be a great first step. The theme of my activities is "not to do something on a big scale right off the bat.

What advice do you have for beginner artists who are looking to do character art?

I am always reminded of the importance of basic skills in portrait painting. When you have the basic skills, you can speed up the pace of your work and spend more time thinking about it. However, my background in character design as a job is still very young, so I am still a beginner myself. Let's work together!

What advice do you have for people who are looking to come up with their own characters?

It's fun to generously fill your design with elements you like, so that's a good place to start.
